Air Canada annonce le départ à la retraite de David I. Richardson, président du conseil d’administration, et la nomination de Vagn Sørensen comme nouveau président
MONTRÉAL, le 7 avril 2017 /CNW Telbec/ – Air Canada (TSX: AC) (OTCQX: ACDVF) a annoncé aujourd’hui la retraite de David I. Richardson, président du conseil d’administration de la Société. Son départ à la retraite entrera en vigueur à la fin de l’assemblée annuelle des actionnaires d’Air Canada le 5 mai 2017, lorsque Vagn Sørensen, membre du conseil d’administration, deviendra le nouveau président, si l’on tient pour acquis qu’il sera réélu administrateur par les actionnaires à l’assemblée générale annuelle.
Après une brillante carrière auprès de Ernst & Young Inc., M. Richardson s’est joint à Air Canada en 2004 et est devenu président du Conseil en 2008. « Au nom de tous les actionnaires, je tiens à souligner le leadership solide et visionnaire de David Richardson, qui prend sa retraite à titre de président après avoir si bien servi Air Canada toutes ces années », a déclaré Calin Rovinescu, président et chef de la direction d’Air Canada. « Les conseils prodigués par David, et son soutien indéfectible et courageux à l’égard de la direction ont été essentiels à la réussite de la stratégie de transformation d’Air Canada pendant cette période, et à la réalisation d’importants progrès en vue d’assurer une rentabilité soutenue. Nous lui souhaitons la meilleure des chances alors qu’il prend sa retraite de notre conseil. »
M. Sørensen a été nommé au conseil d’administration d’Air Canada en 2006, et est actuellement président du Comité des ressources humaines et de la rémunération, du Comité d’audit, des finances et du risque et du Comité de gouvernance et de mises en candidature. Il possède une vaste expérience en affaires, en finances, en transformation numérique du secteur du transport aérien et du transport à l’échelle mondiale. M. Sørensen est président du conseil de FLSmidth & Co. A/S, de Scandic Hotels AB et de SSP Group plc, et agit à titre d’administrateur au sein de Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Il a été président et chef de la direction d’Austrian Airlines Group et a occupé divers postes de cadre supérieur aux affaires commerciales de Scandinavian Airlines System, y compris les fonctions d’adjoint au chef de la direction. M. Sørensen est l’ancien président de British Midland Ltd. et un ancien directeur de Lufthansa Cargo AG.

Air Canada Announces Board Chairman David I. Richardson retirement, appointment of Vagn Sørensen as incoming Chairman
MONTRÉAL, April 7, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ – Air Canada (TSX: AC) (OTCQX: ACDVF) announced today the retirement of David I. Richardson, Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors. His retirement will take effect at the conclusion of Air Canada’s annual meeting of shareholders (AGM) on May 5, 2017, when Vagn Sørensen, a current member of the Board, will become Chairman assuming he is re-elected as a director by shareholders at the AGM.
Following a distinguished career with Ernst & Young Inc., Mr. Richardson joined Air Canada’s Board in 2004 and became Chairman in 2008. « On behalf of all shareholders, I wish to acknowledge the strong and visionary leadership of David Richardson, who is retiring as our Chairman after serving Air Canada so well for all of these years, » said Calin Rovinescu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Canada. « David’s guidance and his steadfast and courageous support of management have been essential to the success of Air Canada’s transformation strategy through this period and our significant progress towards sustained profitability. We wish him the very best as he retires from our Board. »
Mr. Sørensen was appointed to Air Canada’s Board in 2006, and is currently Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee, and a member of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee and the Governance and Nominating Committee. He has extensive experience in global business, finance, digital transformation and the airline and transportation industries. Mr. Sørensen is Chairman of FLSmidth & Co. A/S, Scandic Hotels Group AB and SSP Group plc, and serves as a director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. He was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of Austrian Airlines Group and held various senior commercial positions with SAS Scandinavian Airlines System, including Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Sørensen is the former Chairman of British Midland Ltd. and a former director of Lufthansa Cargo AG.
